Japanese messaging app Line plans to launch 30 mini decentralized applications (dapps) in early 2024, targeting its 196 million active users. This move comes in response to the success of blockchain-based games on Telegram. The new dapps will include games and utility functions, with additional 150 planned by the end of the first quarter. The initiative reflects a growing trend among social media platforms to incorporate blockchain technology. Line's chairman, Sam Seo, indicated that games will be the dominant feature, alongside social apps and AI-based chatting dapps. The decision to pivot towards dapps follows previous challenges the app faced with NFT features, noted for their complexity. Seo acknowledged that earlier efforts were mismatched between user expectations of NFTs as investment tools rather than as means of ownership, emphasizing the need for improved user experience. Lines prior experience with NFTs includes an NFT marketplace launched in 2022. This new strategy aims to create more user-friendly and engaging blockchain functionalities.
