Meta has made its artificial intelligence model Llama available to the US military and defense contractors, focusing on national security applications. According to Nick Clegg, Meta's president of global affairs, Llama will assist in logistics, planning, tracking terrorist financing, and enhancing cyber defenses. The collaboration includes major tech firms like Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, and IBM. This move comes amid concerns that Chinese entities have utilized earlier versions of Llama for military intelligence purposes, which Meta has labeled unauthorized. Under a new partnership framework, Oracle will use Llama to improve aircraft maintenance efficiency. Lockheed Martin is integrating Llama into its operations, while Scale AI is customizing the model for specific defense missions. The initiative reflects a strategic push to maintain a technological advantage over international competitors.
