Metaplanet wraps crypto media deal months after buying first Bitcoin
Japan’s Metaplanet has made strides in the crypto industry by finalizing a licensing deal to launch a Japanese version of Bitcoin Magazine. This agreement comes just six months after the Tokyo-based investment firm purchased Bitcoin for the first time. The licensing deal with BTC Media Inc. allows Metaplanet to introduce Bitcoin Magazine Japan, with a full rollout expected in the first quarter of 2025. Metaplanet aims to bridge the gap between Japan's financial institutions and the Bitcoin community, capitalizing on the country's pivotal role in global finance and technology. Despite some fluctuations in share prices following the announcement, Metaplanet's stock has experienced significant growth since its Bitcoin investments earlier this year, acquiring over 1,142 BTC for approximately $74 million. Bitcoin Magazine, founded in 2012, faces competition from both international and local crypto media outlets as it enters the Japanese market.
