MicroStrategy bought 11K BTC the week before Trump’s inauguration
MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, announced a new purchase of 11,000 BTC, officially confirmed on January 21, 2025. This purchase cost $1.1 billion at an average price of approximately $101,191 per BTC, and it was made between January 13 and January 20, just prior to Trump's inauguration. The acquisition is part of MicroStrategy's ongoing strategy and follows previous Bitcoin buys made using funds from convertible notes sales. With this latest purchase, MicroStrategy's total Bitcoin holdings have reached 461,000 BTC, acquired for a total of $29.3 billion at an average price of $63,610 per BTC. Co-founder Michael Saylor noted that the new acquisition represents the third purchase in January and the largest for 2025, bringing the total BTC acquired by the company this year to 14,600. The yield on their Bitcoin holdings stands at 1.69% year-to-date as per Saylor's announcement.
