Millions of OpenSea user emails leaked in 2022 now fully public
Over seven million email addresses belonging to OpenSea users have been leaked online following a data breach from the marketplace's email automation vendor in mid-2022. The incident, which initially occurred on June 29, 2022, involved an employee from Customer.io, the platform used by OpenSea, who disclosed the customer email list. According to 23pds, a SlowMist executive, the leaked data includes emails of many notable figures and companies in the cryptocurrency industry. OpenSea warned users that if they had shared their email with the platform, they should assume they were affected by this leak. To mitigate the risks of phishing scams, SlowMist advises those potentially impacted to adopt strong and unique passwords, utilize password managers, and enable two-factor authentication. Phishing attacks have proven to be the most financially damaging attack vector, with significant losses reported in 2024, highlighting the importance of user vigilance and security measures.
