Web3 security firm Scam Sniffer warns that misspelling 'Soneium' while searching on Google could direct users to a malicious crypto-draining link. In an Oct. 22 post, Scam Sniffer highlighted that a Google search for 'someium' might yield a sponsored link to a fraudulent site disguised as Sony’s new blockchain, Soneium. This link uses deceptive techniques to evade detection. Cointelegraph, which verified the claim, could not replicate the Phishing ad results but noted that the link differed from Soneium’s official site. Scam Sniffer explained that similar phishing scams have previously resulted in significant losses, with over $127 million in crypto stolen from investors in Q3 2024 alone, primarily targeting Ethereum wallets. The firm emphasized the importance of vigilance when searching for crypto-related information online, particularly with slight misspellings that can lead to harmful websites.
