Morgan Stanley to explore crypto offerings for clients
Morgan Stanley's CEO Ted Pick announced that the bank is considering launching crypto offerings and is in talks with U.S. financial regulators. While speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he emphasized the need for regulatory clarity to ensure safe transactions. Morgan Stanley has already begun exposing clients to digital asset markets through Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). In early 2024, the bank enabled its financial advisers to recommend Bitcoin ETFs, marking a significant move into the crypto sector. Former SEC official John Reed Stark reacted to the bank's decision, warning that it might face intense scrutiny from regulatory bodies like the SEC and FINRA. Morgan Stanley’s foray into crypto is positioned as part of a broader exploration of digital currencies, including central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).
