Mt. Gox makes $35M BTC transfer to unmarked addresses
On November 1, 2024, approximately 500 BTC, worth around $35 million, was transferred from a Mt. Gox-associated cold wallet to several unmarked addresses. This significant transaction was tracked by blockchain intelligence platform Arkham, with the first transfer to an address beginning with '12cTj' followed by two additional transactions of 31.78 BTC and 468.24 BTC. This marks the first major coin movement from Mt. Gox wallets in about a month. Despite this activity, roughly 44,905 BTC, worth around $3.1 billion, remains in Mt. Gox flagged addresses. The defunct exchange had recently extended the repayment deadline for creditors to October 31, 2025, due to many creditors not completing necessary procedures for repayment. Mt. Gox was once among the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges but collapsed in 2014 after a series of hacks and financial issues.
