As Mars lacks any infrastructure for financial transactions, future colonists face challenges in ordering goods or trading NFTs using Bitcoin. Recent advances in neuromorphic computing present a potential solution. These computers simulate human brain processes through a neuron system, enabling rapid pattern recognition and real-time data processing without the need for traditional CPUs. Researchers in South Korea have made progress in developing self-compliant neuromorphic chips, overcoming their inherent unpredictability. This technological advancement could facilitate blockchain transactions on Mars by allowing colonists to perform real-time edge processing. Unlike Earth, where blockchain operations rely on multiple nodes and continuous connectivity, Mars' communication delays necessitate the adaptation of blockchain technology. Neuromorphic computing can enable Martian devices to manage transaction bursts, maintaining blockchain operations despite the 22-minute data transfer delay between Earth and Mars. Thus, this innovation could allow colonists to continue utilizing Earth-based blockchains effectively despite the challenges of interplanetary communication.
