Nifty Island, an Ethereum-based metaverse game, recently concluded its play-to-airdrop campaign after nine months, during which it attracted over 140,000 unique active wallets. The game allows users to create and share their own virtual worlds called Islands, resulting in approximately 70,000 Islands created by players. Co-founder Charles Smith highlighted the campaign's success, claiming Nifty Island is now the most active 3D user-generated game world in Web3. However, as the airdrop wraps up, the team is preparing for the launch of the ISLAND token in a matter of weeks. The token will launch on the Ethereum mainnet, with potential for other chains. Smith emphasized the need for sustainable models beyond play-to-airdrop, pointing out the challenges of retaining player engagement post-airdrop. He hinted at upcoming updates that will significantly transform Nifty Island, moving towards a new monetization paradigm in Web3 gaming.
