The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) has indicated it is preparing to launch options trading for spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), particularly BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust. Following the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission's (CFTC) approval, the OCC's notice on November 18 highlighted its readiness for the clearance, settlement, and risk management of these investment vehicles. Experts anticipate that trading could begin as soon as November 19. Alison Hennessy, head of exchange-traded product listings at Nasdaq, confirmed the exchange's intention to list these options shortly, marking potentially significant institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies. The SEC had previously approved spot Bitcoin ETFs in January, with spot Ether ETFs following later in May. This announcement indicates a major step forward in the crypto investment landscape.
