Pectra progress: Gas refunds, audits and Ethereum leadership talk
In the first ACD call of the year, Ethereum core developers discussed finalizing .Devnet 5, which went live shortly before the call. A significant fix regarding gas refunds was merged, addressing transaction gas costs and enhancing consistency. EIP-7840, which focuses on streamlining configuration within Ethereum, was introduced by Marek Moraczyński from the Nethermind team. Developers also considered adjustments to gas costs to ensure alignment with previous assumptions, as explained by Radek Zagórowicz from the Ipsilon team. The gas limits for testing post-Pectra fork are proposed to rise progressively, starting at 60 million. Additionally, the Ethereum community is supporting Danny Ryan as a candidate to lead the Ethereum Foundation, following calls for new leadership. His technical expertise, evident during the transition to proof-of-stake, has made him a favorable choice among community members. Ryan has publicly acknowledged his respect for the current executive director, Aya Miyaguchi, highlighting a desire for civil discourse regardless of future roles.
