The US Department of Defense (DoD) has concluded a pilot program designed to explore the use of AI chatbots in military medical services. Launched by the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO), the Crowdsourced AI Red-Teaming (CAIRT) Assurance Program involved over 200 clinical providers and healthcare analysts. Participants tested three prominent chatbot models to identify vulnerabilities and biases related to their use in military applications. The pilot revealed over 800 potential issues, which could inform future AI tool development within the DoD. The initiative aims to improve the integration of AI technologies in military settings. The CDAO, established in June 2022, oversees these advancements and aims to create benchmark data sets for evaluating AI tools going forward.
