Adam Back, co-founder and CEO of Blockstream, emphasized that while post-quantum (PQ) signature research is still in its infancy, it could ultimately produce compact signatures that can enhance Bitcoin's security structure. Presently, Bitcoin signatures are crucial for securing transactions by authenticating ownership through private key signatures. Investor attention towards Bitcoin's security has risen following its price milestone surpassing $100,000 on December 6. Furthermore, technological developments, such as Google's new quantum chip, have reignited discussions about the potential disruptions to cryptocurrency encryption, although experts assert that significant computational power is still necessary to pose a real threat to Bitcoin. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is also actively preparing for a post-quantum scenario, illustrating the growing need for future-proofing blockchain technologies against quantum advancements.
