Russell Okung’s New Football League Wants Players to be Paid in Bitcoin
Former NFL player Russell Okung has launched a new flag football league called Bitball, where players will be paid in Bitcoin. He announced this venture on social media, stating he aims to eliminate middlemen and provide athletes with better financial opportunities. The idea stemmed from his unsuccessful attempts to persuade NFL owners of Bitcoin's potential. Bitball's inaugural game is scheduled for December 10 at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Okung also shared his conviction in Bitcoin, having previously taken half of his salary in Bitcoin in 2020. He believes Bitcoin represents freedom and can create wealth, as he continues to invest in both Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining. Despite acknowledging Bitcoin's volatility, Okung remains optimistic about its long-term value. He aspires to see other sports leagues adopt Bitcoin for athlete compensation, emphasizing Bitball’s focus on community and pure sportsmanship.
