The Russian government has seized $10 million worth of Bitcoin from Marat Tambiev, a former employee of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, linked to a massive bribery case involving cryptocurrency. This confiscation, initiated by court enforcement officers, involves the seizure of approximately 103 BTC from Tambiev, who was convicted in 2023 for accepting bribes amounting to 2,718 BTC, valued at about $258 million, marking the largest bribery case in Russia's history. The seized assets will contribute to the state's revenue following the court's ruling. In previous proceedings, Tambiev was ordered to forfeit 1,032 BTC due to unverified income. He reportedly received these bribes from the Infraud Organization, a known hacker group, with the intent to halt criminal prosecution and facilitate the concealment of substantial cryptographic assets. The investigation indicated a broader network of extortion involving other former ICRF officials in exchange for protecting the interests of the hackers.
