Stanislav Moiseev, founder of the Hydra darknet market and crypto mixing service, has received a life sentence from a Russian court. The Moscow Regional Court found Moiseev and 15 accomplices guilty of forming a criminal community and engaging in the illegal production and sale of drugs. Sentences for his accomplices ranged from 8 to 23 years, with Moiseev also receiving a fine of $38,100. The Hydra market was notorious for its role in the darknet economy, accounting for a significant percentage of all related crypto transactions and facilitating over $5 billion worth of crypto operations since its launch in 2015 until it was dismantled in 2022. The market specialized in various illegal activities, including selling counterfeit currencies. Law enforcement seized substantial amounts of narcotic drugs linked to Hydra. The case underscores ongoing efforts against darknet markets by Russian authorities, with past investigations dating back to 2016.
