SEC Won't Postpone Ripple Lawsuit Appeal Until After Gensler's Departure
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will not delay its appeal in the Ripple lawsuit, despite upcoming changes in leadership scheduled for January 20. Ripple's chief legal officer, Stuart Alderoty, expressed disappointment over the SEC's refusal to postpone the appeal hearing, labeling it a misuse of taxpayer dollars. Despite the SEC's aggressive stance, XRP's price has risen nearly 16% recently, reflecting investor confidence. Ripple's legal struggles began in 2020 when the SEC alleged that Ripple's fundraising practices violated securities laws. While a recent ruling favored Ripple by concluding that XRP sales to retail investors were legal, further challenges remain. Ripple's CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, criticized SEC Chairman Gary Gensler, characterizing him as dismissive of public sentiment and committed to a controversial enforcement strategy. Ripple has actively sought to shift the political landscape in its favor, notably contributing $25 million to pro-crypto candidates in the 2024 election.
