Sony Just Launched an Ethereum Network—Will It Get PlayStation Games?
Sony has launched its Ethereum network called Soneium, aimed at potentially integrating blockchain technology into various sectors, including gaming. The company’s Block Solutions Labs Director mentioned that Soneium could help onboard more users into the crypto world. However, the spokesperson noted that there are no specific updates about integrating PlayStation games with Soneium. Notably, roughly a dozen games are being developed on the network, but they do not include titles from Sony or its partners at this stage. Previous patent applications show Sony’s interest in blockchain for tracking in-game assets with NFTs. To date, there have been no PlayStation titles utilizing blockchain elements directly. Other video game companies, including Rockstar Games, have explored digital asset integration but are cautious about its implications. As of now, Soneium remains open for developers to utilize, but concrete developments regarding PlayStation game integrations are awaited.
