Telegram answered 900 US requests for user data in 2024: Report
Telegram has reportedly responded to 900 requests from U.S. authorities for user data in 2024, which included IP addresses and phone numbers affecting 2,253 users. Most of these requests escalated after the arrest of CEO Pavel Durov in France, with a total of about 14 requests for user identification made from January to September. This number suggests a significant increase in inquiries following October. Durov revealed that Telegram has been cooperating with authorities by providing user IP addresses and phone numbers since 2018, as stated in the platform's privacy policy. The legal case concerning Durov and his subsequent arrest continues, with reports noting that Telegram had more than 950 million monthly active users as of September. The messaging platform is often preferred by users in the crypto space due to its end-to-end encryption features.
