Tether's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, has dismissed claims that the stablecoin issuer is under investigation by the U.S. government. In response to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), which suggested that Tether might be investigated for possible violations related to sanctions and anti-money laundering, Ardoino stated on X (formerly Twitter) that there is no indication of any ongoing investigation. He criticized the WSJ for what he termed ‘regurgitating old noise’ and expressed concerns over the irresponsible nature of such allegations without proper attribution to credible sources. Tether has faced scrutiny in the past regarding the transparency of its reserves and has been subject to previous investigations. Currently, USDT serves as a cornerstone of the cryptocurrency ecosystem, having a significant market cap and being actively traded. Tether continues to maintain that it collaborates with law enforcement to prevent misuse of its cryptocurrency.
