Tether shifts $780M in Bitcoin to reserve — its biggest move in 9 months
Tether has transferred over 8,400 Bitcoin to its reserve, marking its largest allocation since March, worth nearly $780 million. According to Arkham Intelligence, Tether's wallets received approximately 7628.9 BTC and 775.6 BTC on December 30, totaling 8404.5 BTC. The new Bitcoin holdings are valued at about $777.4 million, with Bitcoin trading around $92,500. This brings Tether’s total Bitcoin holdings to 83,759 BTC, worth nearly $7.75 billion. Tether plans to allocate up to 15% of its net realized operating profits for Bitcoin purchases. Tether ranks third overall in Bitcoin holdings among both public and private companies, behind MicroStrategy and Block.one. The move coincides with Bitcoin's significant price increase over 2024, where it has doubled in value but has seen a decrease recently from its mid-December high of approximately $108,000.
