The Protocol: Reinvent Ethereum, and Just Don't Break Bitcoin
Loyal readers of The Protocol may recall its launch on April 26, 2023, as a newsletter covering blockchain technology developments. As the main author, I've engaged with vast technological advancements, leaving little out. I am departing CoinDesk shortly to pursue new ideas, with the newsletter's continuity under Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Grateful for the readers’ loyalty, which resulted in an impressive open rate, I reflect on our shared journey through the complex blockchain landscape. An Ethereum upgrade proposal by Justin Drake at Devcon in Bangkok aims to rework its consensus layer, urging significant enhancements. Meanwhile, reports indicate a notable value increase in Bitcoin, with discussions centered around improving usability without damaging core structure, as emphasized during the OP_NEXT conference in Boston. With new projects emerging like Linea from Consensys, which aims to scale Ethereum, the landscape remains vibrant. Additionally, developments related to Bitcoin's programmability and funding races highlight the evolving ecosystem. In the end, as I move into a phase of exploration, I wish everyone success in their ventures within this rich space.
