A trader known as qklpjeth revealed that they lost $26 million in June due to a copy-and-paste error when transferring cryptocurrency. On June 19, the trader mistakenly sent 7,912 Renzo restaked ETH (ezETH) worth $26.4 million to a contract address rather than their own safe. This mistake locked the tokens, making them impossible to retrieve. After several months of unsuccessful attempts to recover the funds, qklpjeth publicly sought assistance from white hat hackers, offering a reward of $2.5 million for help in recovering the lost assets. The crypto community suggested contacting the Renzo protocol for potential solutions; however, regulatory issues prevented any assistance from the protocol. Industry expert Harrison Seletsky commented that this incident highlights the urgent need for improved user experience in crypto transactions to prevent such costly mistakes, emphasizing that greater focus on user experience is essential for mass adoption of cryptocurrency.
