Tron's T3 Financial Crime Fighting Unit Hits $100M in Frozen USDT
The T3 Financial Crime Fighting Unit, a collaboration between Tron, Tether, and TRM Labs, has successfully frozen $100 million in USDT linked to illicit activities since its launch. This unit focuses on using advanced blockchain intelligence tools to monitor transactions worldwide, having analyzed over 3 billion USDT transactions. The primary sources of frozen funds involve money laundering services, scams, drug trafficking, terrorism financing, blackmail, and cybercrime. Notably, about $3 million of the frozen USDT had connections to North Korea's funding efforts. TRM Labs emphasizes that blockchain's transparency aids in confirming victim reports and identifying other affected parties, making it less favorable for money laundering. Ultimately, the goal of the initiative is to deter bad actors from engaging in criminal activities in the cryptocurrency space while aiding victims in recovering their funds.
