A survey by the cryptocurrency exchange Paribu indicates that Turkish investors are increasingly favoring cryptocurrencies over traditional assets like real estate and stocks. The '2024 Cryptocurrency Awareness and Perception Survey' involved 2,002 interviews with individuals familiar with crypto and 541 with active traders. The findings showed that while gold remains the most preferred investment at 56%, cryptocurrency is now the third choice, favored by 30% of respondents, compared to just 26% for real estate. The study highlighted a significant rise in crypto awareness from only 16% in 2020 to nearly 99% in 2024, coinciding with the surge in global market capitalization. Despite this familiarity with crypto, understanding of blockchain technology remains low, with 72% of participants unaware of its definition. Nergis Nurcan Karababa from Paribu noted that the higher transaction speeds, accessibility, and potential returns drive this shift towards crypto. The trends suggest an ongoing transformation in investment preferences within Turkey as more individuals anticipate widespread crypto adoption in the future.
