A coalition of 18 state attorneys general is calling on President Joe Biden to intervene on behalf of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, who is currently detained in Nigeria. In a joint letter dated October 18, the attorneys general expressed grave concerns regarding Gambaryan's declining health and questioned the legality of his detention. They have urged Biden to classify Gambaryan as a hostage under the Robert Levinson Hostage Recovery and Hostage-Taking Accountability Act. The urgency for action was heightened when Gambaryan was too ill to attend court on October 18, prompting a judge to postpone his hearing until October 25. Attorney General John Formella emphasized the moral obligation to protect U.S. citizens abroad and called for diplomatic efforts to secure his release.
