Blockchain identity verification company Worldcoin has officially rebranded as ‘World.’ Founder Sam Altman made the announcement on October 17 during a keynote speech. The rebranding was reflected across the company’s social media as the new name was unveiled. Alongside the rebrand, World introduced an upgraded version of its Orb biometric scanning devices, designed to efficiently scan users’ eyes and powered by Nvidia hardware, making it five times more powerful than its predecessor. Users will soon be able to verify their identity using NFC-enabled government-issued passports through the new World ID Credentials program. Another notable development is the World ID Deep Face service, which aims to combat deepfakes by verifying the authenticity of videos. The company revealed that 15 million users have signed up for the World app, with 7 million already verified. The new Orb devices are expected to be available in self-service kiosks in various markets soon.
