Gala Games partners with PokerGO to launch Web3 Poker platform

Beta testing for PokerGO is scheduled for June, with a full release expected later this year

GameFi developer Gala Games has announced its collaboration with PokerGO, a renowned Las Vegas poker streaming platform, to introduce an innovative Web3 social poker game. The upcoming platform, named PokerGO Play, will offer players an immersive experience and the opportunity to upgrade their players while also providing real-world prizes. Beta testing for PokerGO is scheduled for June, with a full release expected later this year.

Last year, PokerGO released its exclusive collection of 1,326 Genesis nonfungible tokens (NFTs) that represent all possible starting hand combinations in Texas Hold’em. These NFTs have gained substantial popularity, with a cumulative trading volume of approximately 52 Ether and a floor price of 0.1 ETH. Holders of PokerGO Genesis NFTs will receive special benefits within the game, including the chance to participate in exclusive events at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas.

Gala Games is a renowned Ethereum-based play-to-earn blockchain game developer. In a recent announcement, Gala developers revealed that they burned over 21 billion Gala (GALA) tokens, amounting to around $640 million, following the v2 airdrop of their protocol. Another notable project in the decentralized Ethereum online poker space is Virtue Gaming, which launched a digital poker casino in December 2021, employing cryptocurrencies and a play-to-earn model. This platform boasts the backing of World Poker Tour champion and poker celebrity Phil Ivey.

Gala Games faced a setback in November 2022 when its Gala Games token bridge fell victim to an infinite minting glitch. This exploit resulted in the extraction of approximately $4.5 million from the project’s liquidity pool. Gala Games is currently engaged in a litigation process with pNetwork, the cross-chain interoperability bridge used by Gala Games on the BNB Smart Chain, alleging the latter’s involvement in the incident. The litigation amounts to $28 million.

The collaboration between Gala Games and PokerGO promises an exciting future for poker enthusiasts. With the launch of PokerGO Play, players can anticipate a next-level poker experience in a Web3 environment. As the GameFi sector continues to evolve, Gala Games remains at the forefront, introducing innovative blockchain-based games and pushing the boundaries of the gaming industry.
