Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, is set to meet Argentina’s President Javier Milei in October to discuss the role of cryptocurrency in transforming Argentina’s economy. Scheduled for October 19 during Tech Forum Argentina, the meeting will explore the potential of blockchain to reshape economic, political, and social structures.
Hoskinson plans to address crucial issues such as whether Argentina should develop a central bank digital currency (CBDC) and how blockchain technology can contribute to the country’s economic revival. He has already held discussions with Milei’s team on the role blockchain might play in Argentina’s future. Notably, this conversation will extend beyond Cardano, involving a broader range of blockchain technologies.
Hoskinson described Milei as a “philosophical Austrian,” highlighting the president’s alignment with cryptocurrency principles such as opposing government-controlled money and supporting free markets. These shared values could lead to a significant partnership, strengthening Cardano’s influence in the country.
Cardano’s ties to Argentina date back to 2015, when AtixLabs, one of the project’s early development companies, was founded in Argentina. The network has maintained strong roots in the country, with multiple collaborations to promote local blockchain adoption. Milei has also publicly supported Cardano, sharing related posts on his social media.
The meeting coincides with Cardano’s latest governance upgrade, Voltaire, marking the blockchain’s shift towards decentralized governance. With the blockchain community now having a direct say in its future, Hoskinson sees this as an opportunity for the platform to continue evolving through diverse perspectives.
This historic meeting could position Argentina as a key player in the global blockchain revolution.
