A fraudulent app pretending to be the popular DeFi platform Curve Finance recently infiltrated the Apple app store, climbing into the top 100 finance apps globally as of Oct. 26. Despite being flagged by users as a scam, the counterfeit app is gaining traction across regions like Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, the U.S., and Southeast Asia, exposing unsuspecting users to potential financial loss.

This fake app, misleadingly labeled as “Curve defi v3” and developed by “Tao Duong Van,” mimics the legitimate Curve Finance logo and interface but offers no real DeFi functionality. Instead, the app’s store description reads, “Curve defi v3 is an amazing app. Arrange the blocks to make a perfect row and clear it!”—a vague, game-like instruction clearly disconnected from DeFi. The app also boasts “over 30 million global users,” a claim aimed at convincing users of its credibility, despite reviewers unanimously giving it a one-star rating and warning of its scam nature.

Social media has become a crucial alert system for this scam. Babu, a fintech engineer and app store scam expert, exposed the fake app in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), tagging Curve Finance’s official account and urging users to report the impostor. Curve Finance previously faced a similar scam on Feb. 14, when another unauthorized app, created by “MK Technology,” attempted to exploit the brand’s logo and reputation, calling itself a “powerful app” for financial management.

For now, users are strongly advised to avoid downloading the fake app, report it to Apple, and stay vigilant for similar scams on app stores.
