MetaWin Casino Hit by $4M Hack
Online casino platform hit by major cyberattack as hacker drains millions
MetaWin, a popular online casino platform, recently fell victim to a cyberattack on November 3, resulting in the loss of approximately $4 million. The hack, which exploited MetaWin's hot wallets through its frictionless withdrawal system, forced the platform to temporarily halt withdrawals. MetaWin's CEO, Skel, reported that the lost funds have since been replenished and assured that withdrawals are now restored for 95% of users.
Blockchain analyst ZackXBT tracked the hacker’s movements, revealing that the stolen funds were transferred to KuCoin and HitBTC, involving over 115 addresses linked to the malicious actor. While the hacker's identity and motives remain unknown, the incident has raised alarms within the crypto community.
This attack on MetaWin is just one in a recent string of high-profile crypto security breaches. In October, lending platform Radiant Capital suffered a staggering $58 million loss after hackers gained control of its private keys, enabling them to access smart contracts on the BNB Chain and Arbitrum network. Similarly, a sophisticated phishing attack on October 30 targeted decentralized apps like 1inch and TEN Finance, exploiting a vulnerability in the popular Lottie Player animation library. Users were tricked into connecting their wallets, which were drained by the "Ace Drainer" phishing software.
Adding to the mounting concerns, M2 Exchange was hacked for $13 million, suffering a breach similar to MetaWin's through its internet-connected hot wallets. These incidents spotlight the pressing need for enhanced security measures in the crypto space, as hackers continue to exploit vulnerabilities across platforms.
