Polygon Labs has officially launched Plonky3, a cutting-edge zero-knowledge (ZK) proving system designed to significantly enhance blockchain development. This latest upgrade offers developers modular and flexible options for building ZK virtual machines and Ethereum Virtual Machines (EVMs).
Plonky3 represents a major advancement from its predecessor, Plonky2. Now open-source under the MIT/Apache license, Plonky3 allows developers to freely use, modify, and distribute the software. Daniel Lubarov, co-founder of Polygon, highlighted that Plonky3 builds on the successes of Plonky2 by providing a more adaptable toolkit. Developers can now tailor their projects for optimal speed, proof size, or a balance of both.
With a focus on improving Ethereum’s scalability, Plonky3 is set to make a significant impact. Lubarov explained that Plonky3 offers a 5–10x speed improvement over Plonky2 for specific computations and configurations. This enhancement is expected to drive Ethereum’s growth by leveraging advanced ZK technology.
Polygon Labs has also expanded its reach through a partnership with the TON Application Chain (TAC). Announced on July 9, this collaboration integrates Polygon’s CDK to bring EVM-compatible decentralized applications (dApps) to the TON layer 2. The integration aims to increase the variety of applications available to TON users, including identity solutions, gaming, and decentralized finance (DeFi). Pavel Alktukhov, CEO of TAC, expressed confidence that EVM compatibility will eliminate barriers to TON Network adoption, boosting interest in DeFi and gaming finance.
Plonky3 is poised to revolutionize blockchain development, providing developers with powerful tools for creating more efficient and scalable solutions. As Polygon Labs continues to innovate, the implications for Ethereum and the broader blockchain ecosystem are profound, heralding a new era of advanced and accessible applications.
