Polygon, a leading blockchain platform, has confirmed a security breach in its community Discord channel, marking yet another cyber attack on cryptocurrency communication platforms. Mudit Gupta, Polygon’s Chief Information Security Officer, has urged users to avoid clicking any links shared within the Discord until the situation is fully under control.

The breach has led to a flurry of scam activities, with users being misled by fake support agents posing as legitimate representatives. One user, shadabk2005, took to the X platform to warn others about scam links being posted in the announcements channel. Disturbingly, another user, ValidatorK, reported losing $150,000 worth of Ether from his pool after interacting with what seemed to be an official announcement on Polygon’s Discord.

This attack is part of a growing trend of cybercriminals targeting Discord channels within the crypto community. Previous breaches include a phishing scam on the Arbitrum Discord server in March 2023 and a hack on Gnus.AI’s Discord in May, which resulted in a loss of approximately $1.27 million.

The timing of the breach couldn’t be worse for Polygon, as the platform is currently preparing for a major network upgrade. Scheduled for September 4, this upgrade will replace Polygon's native token with POL tokens, aiming to enhance the utility of its token and expand its network of aggregated blockchains, known as AggLayer.
