The 2024 United States elections have marked significant victories for pro-crypto advocates, reshaping the political landscape. According to data from Coinbase’s Stand With Crypto (SWC) initiative, numerous states have elected officials who are supportive of the crypto industry, signaling a potential shift in legislative attitudes toward digital assets.

SWC’s data reveals that pro-crypto candidates have been elected across most of the country, with exceptions in states like New Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Vermont, and Maine. Specifically, 261 pro-crypto representatives have claimed seats in the House, compared to 116 anti-crypto officials. In the Senate, 17 pro-crypto members have been elected, surpassing the 12 anti-crypto figures.

A major driver behind these victories was the substantial financial support from the crypto community. SWC reports that approximately $206 million was funneled into campaign efforts, with $204 million backing Fairshake, a pro-crypto super PAC, and nearly $3 million directed to SWC itself.

One notable win was in Ohio, where Republican Bernie Moreno defeated incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown in the Senate race, marking a major pro-crypto victory. The contest, one of the most expensive in campaign history with over $500 million in spending, saw Fairshake contribute $40 million to Moreno’s success. His victory by 50.2% of the vote replaced Brown, known for his anti-crypto stance and alignment with SEC Chair Gary Gensler, a strong crypto regulator.

Pro-crypto candidates are also leading in other key Senate battles. In Montana, Tim Sheehy won against Jon Tester, while in Pennsylvania, Dave McCormick is in a tight race against Bob Casey.

However, not all outcomes favored the crypto camp. In Massachusetts, prominent crypto critic Senator Elizabeth Warren defeated Republican John Deaton, a well-known advocate for the industry and supporter of XRP holders in Ripple’s legal case against the SEC.

The results from this election could shape the regulatory future of the crypto industry in the U.S., with pro-crypto voices now holding stronger positions in the government.
