XLink Taps Kaamel Technology for Major Investigation on $10M Security Breach
XLink takes decisive action with leading cybersecurity firm
Bitcoin bridge XLink has partnered with Kaamel Technology to lead a comprehensive investigation into a recent $10 million security breach. This move is part of XLink's aggressive strategy to secure its platform against future threats.
In a statement released on May 20, XLink announced, "We are pleased to announce that XLink is taking decisive actions to reinforce the security of our platform. Our first major initiative is the strategic engagement with Kaamel Technology for Incident Response."
Kaamel Technology will conduct an in-depth investigation into the breach that occurred on May 15, targeting user funds. The aim is to identify the root cause, eliminate vulnerabilities, and prevent future breaches.
In parallel with this partnership, XLink is accelerating its collaboration with Ancilia Inc. and Cobo. Ancilia, which initially alerted XLink to the attack, is enhancing real-time on-chain monitoring infrastructure. This move enabled XLink to take swift action and mitigate further losses.
XLink is also expanding its partnership with Cobo, its BTC custodian. Cobo’s robust setup played a crucial role in securing the reserve asset of aBTC during the breach. XLink plans to migrate its web3 key management to Cobo’s MPC infrastructure to further bolster security.
The $10 million hack involved compromising Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain endpoints. The attacker managed to withdraw around $4.3 million through a phishing scheme but was foiled by a white hat hacker who recovered the stolen assets.
Additionally, Alex Labs, the developer behind the XLink bridge, suffered a related attack on May 15, losing approximately $13.7 million in Stacks tokens due to compromised private keys.
XLink's proactive measures, in collaboration with Ancilia, Cobo, and Kaamel Technology, aim to fortify the platform's security and prevent future breaches. Further partnerships and security enhancements are expected to be announced soon.
