Ubisoft, known for blockbuster titles like Assassin’s Creed, is diving deeper into blockchain technology with its latest venture. The gaming giant announced a groundbreaking initiative to offer free Ethereum NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) for its upcoming game, “Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles.” This move follows Ubisoft’s previous foray into the blockchain space with Tezos NFTs for Ghost Recon Breakpoint in 2021, underscoring their ongoing commitment to integrating blockchain technology into gaming.
“Champions Tactics” is shaping up to be a unique blend of strategy and fantasy, where players engage in battles using diverse, powerful characters that resemble tabletop figurines. Ubisoft is not only bringing a fresh gameplay experience but also innovating in the way games interact with blockchain technology. The game is expected to launch on PC in early 2024.
The NFTs, known as “The Warlords,” are styled like pixel heroes from classic games and will offer holders early access to mint in-game Champions figurines. A total of 9,999 Warlords NFTs will be issued, with 8,000 available through minting, 1,000 reserved for the Oasys community, and the remainder held by Ubisoft for promotional purposes.
To engage the community further, Ubisoft is running a Twitter campaign encouraging users to like, retweet, and comment for a chance to be on the allowlist to mint these NFTs. Fifty lucky participants will be selected to join a private Discord server dedicated to the game.
This initiative represents a significant step for Ubisoft in the realm of crypto-native games, blending traditional gaming elements with the emerging world of blockchain and NFTs. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, Ubisoft’s move could be a harbinger of more widespread adoption of blockchain technology in mainstream gaming.
