Crypto Highlights: FTX Sentencing, Memecoin Trading Success, and Saylor's Bitcoin Pitch
Today in crypto, FTX co-founder Gary Wang was sentenced to time served for his involvement in the exchange’s collapse, receiving a sentence that includes probation and forfeiture of assets. Wang expressed remorse in court for taking the cowardly path during the exchange's illicit dealings. In contrast, FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried received a much harsher 25-year sentence. In other news, a trader achieved an astounding 2,100-fold return on investment in just three hours from a memecoin, despite it being identified as a rug pull. This trader's initial investment in the QUANT memecoin resulted in nearly $1 million in profit. Lastly, MicroStrategy Chairman Michael Saylor announced plans to pitch Microsoft about investing in Bitcoin, after being invited to present to the board. Saylor attempted to meet with Microsoft’s CEO to discuss this confidentially, but his offer was declined, leading to the scheduled proposal.
